Eco Friendly Cleaning Recipes

Laundry Detergent:

Caring for your clothes is important not only for the material to last long but also to avoid unwanted chemicals to be on your skin.  It's cheap and easy to make your own laundry detergent.

Powdered Detergent:
2cups/1bar Fels Naphtha soap (finely grated)
1 cup washing soda
1cup Borax

Use 2 tablespoons for each full load.

Vinegar is a natural fabric softener, by adding 1/2 cup to the cycle, the clothes will be soft for those with sensitive skin.

Household Cleaners:

Modern households spend so much money on chemicals to clean the kitchen, floors, bathrooms, etc.  Having all the chemicals released into the air is very unhealthy and damaging, especially to pregnant women.  Here's a list of basic non-toxic cleaners that get the job done:

Baking Soda
Borax
Castile Soap
White Distilled Vinegar
Lemon Juice/Oil
Corn Starch
Hydrogen Peroxide

These are the basics to home cleaning non-toxic solutions.  There are many recipes to enjoy a clean non-toxic home.  With the majority of these cleaners avoid using them on marble and finished wood especially if it calls for vinegar.

All-Purpose Cleaner:

2 cups Water
1tsp borax
1/4 cup vinegar
30 drops of lemon essential oil

OR

1/2 cup vinegar
1/4 cup baking soda
1/2 gallon water
some lemon juice for scent

In a spray bottle combine the ingredients.

Typical Floor Cleaner:

1/4 cup vinegar
1TB liquid dish soap
1/4cup baking soda
2 gallons warm water

Glass Cleaner:

1/4 cup vinegar
1TB corn starch
1 quart warm water

Scouring Powder:

2parts baking soda
1part slat
1part borax

Apply powder and let it sit for 10 minutes.  Come back and scrub, rinse with water.

Toilet Cleaner:

Sprinkle baking soda in the toilet with a squirt of vinegar and scrub.
This cleans and deodorizes.
